The Cap/Disc Ratio in Glaucoma Patients

Abstract
The characteristics of the optic cup continue to-be of great interest in evaluation of glaucoma. Various attributes of the cup are considered significant in differentiating the normal from the glaucomatous cup. In eyes with normal fields, the cup/disc (C/D) ratio was found to be significantly-related to applanation pressure Pa level. The frequency distribution of the C/D ratio in following groups were investigated. The sample was divided into two groups depending upon the Pa reading: The first included eyes with a Pa<2 OmmHg, and the second included those with Pa>19mmhg.
In eyes with lower Pa readings (Pa<20mmHg) 18% had a C/D ratio, >0.3; ;whereas in eyes with
higher Pa readings (Pa>19mm/Hg) 25.0% had a C/D ratio >0.3.
Next, the sample was divided into two age groups:
One included those with age was <4() years and the other included those age was >39 years.
In the younger age group, C/D >0.3 occurred in 15.5%; Whereas the older age group it occurred in 21.5%
